The Batistić–Zure family has been professionally engaged in grape and wine production since 1996, but long before that it cultivated a strong tradition of agriculture (viticulture, olive growing, vegetable farming, fishing, livestock breeding, etc.) in the village of Lumbarda on the island of Korčula. This tradition spans around 600 years, which is also the age of the Batistić family lineage.
The winery has always nurtured, valued, and focused on the production of the indigenous grape variety Grk from the sandy soils of Lumbarda, both in grape growing and wine production.
In 2011, through land reclamation of karst and terrain at the “Defora” site in Lumbarda, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sc. Bernarda Kozina from the Faculty of Agriculture in Zagreb, the family established a modern vineyard with approximately 33,000 vine stocks, an olive grove with around 500 olive trees, and an orchard containing about 200 various fruit trees.
It is important to emphasize that the wines produced are exclusively and 100% made from grapes grown in the winery’s own vineyards.
The main focus of production is, of course, the indigenous variety of Lumbarda – Grk, and the winery is the largest producer of this grape and wine in Lumbarda. In addition to Grk “Bartul” and the Sur Lie style, the winery also produces wines from Pošip, Plavac Mali, and “Rebellion” (a blend of five red varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Plavac Mali, and Alicante Bouschet).
In addition to the listed wines, the winery produces a Grk dessert wine Prošek “Elysion” and a sparkling wine “Quinta Essentia”, both of which present the Grk variety in a way never shown before.
The Batistić–Zure family is also engaged in agrotourism, offering the fruits of their work in vegetable farming, fishing, olive growing, pig breeding, and more in their restaurant “Zure”, where all products can be tasted alongside traditional local cuisine, accompanied by wines from their own winery.
Besides wine, the Batistić–Zure family also produces olive oil as well as various fruit and herbal liqueurs.
