Bura

Bura Family Wines – The Bura family settled in Raslina on Lake Prukljan near Šibenik more than 120 years ago, arriving from Bilice on the opposite side of Prukljan. As a typical farming family, they were looking for land suitable for vineyards, a craft they knew well. Over three generations, they became deeply rooted in the rocky karst terrain of Raslina. Luka’s son Jakov, together with his large family, cleared the land and planted thousands of Babić vines, an indigenous grape variety. His son Ivan inherited only a small part of these vineyards and continued to maintain them, producing good-quality wine that he regularly sold (“krčmio”) in Šibenik. Ivan’s son Miljenko, although growing up in Šibenik, loved this way of life and supported his father in continuing the family tradition of winemaking and cellar work. Life later took him to Zagreb, where he graduated in medicine and built a career as an internationally recognized expert, surgeon, and university professor. While still actively working as a surgeon, in 2008 he took over the vineyard from his father and continued production under the family farm OPG Bura Miljenko, initially producing and promoting wine mostly among friends. Further cultivation and continuous learning alongside young winemaker Marko Sladić deepened his passion for producing Babić and other wines made from the Babić grape. In 2020, after retiring, he made a further step forward in both the quantity and promotion of wines that had been aging in the cellar and were only then more seriously introduced to the market under the label Babić – “Dida moj.”
